Analogies: find the link

Strategy card

An analogy uses the same link twice.

  1. Step 1: Look at the first pair.
  2. Step 2: Make a sentence: "A puppy is a baby dog."
  3. Step 3: Use the same sentence with the next word: "A kitten is a baby …"
  4. Step 4: Pick the word that fits your sentence.

Tip: If more than one answer fits, make your sentence more exact.

Worked example

in goes with out. open goes with ___?

in→outopen→?

  • A: small
  • B: slow
  • C: closed (the answer)
